Febco 765 Backflow Preventer Device Information

Febco 765 Pressure Vacuum Breakers are designed to be installed to provide protection against back siphonage of toxic or non-toxic liquids into your drinking water supply. They feature a durable bronze body and a check valve and air opening port in one assembly.

Backflow Preventers are required by law for all lawn sprinkler systems!

febco backflow preventerBackflow is the undesirable reversal of the flow of water or mixtures of water and other undesirable substances from any source (such as used water, industrial fluids, gasses, or any substance other than the intended potable water) into the distribution pipes of the potable water system. There are two types of backflow conditions: backpressure and backsiphonage.

Febco Backflow Preventer Device Installation Guidelines

  • The Febco 765 Pressure Vacuum Breaker Assembly must be installed where it is accessible for periodic testing or repair.
  • The Backflow device must not be installed in a pipe line until the line has been flushed of foreign material. Failure to flush the lines completely may cause the check members to become fouled and require disassembly and cleaning.
  • The Febco Backflow device must be installed so that the Air Inlet operates in the vertical position Installation in any other manner will cause the device to malfunction.
  • The Febco PVB should be installed where some spillage is not objectionable, as instantaneous siphon conditions and pressure surges will cause "spitting".
  • When threading the device in line, place wrench only on ball valve hex ends. Keep pipe dope off interior surfaces of valve.
  • After installation, open inlet ball valve to pressurize device. Slowly open outlet ball valve to fill down-stream line.
  • THE FEBCO 765 MUST BE PROTECTED FROM FREEZING. Thermal water expansion and/or water hammer downstream of the backflow preventer can cause excessive pressure increases. Excessive pressure situations should be eliminated to avoid possible damage to the system and device.
